In this presentation I shown the relationship between social attention in technology news and the production of academic research through the use of tools related to Gartner’s Hype Cycle. The objective is the creation of an indicator for early detection of emerging technologies in the service robotics. From the participants I could gather the following feedback:

• While for some technologies, social attention precedes academic research, it cannot be neglected that seminal ideas appear first in academia.
• It would be necessary to also discuss what kind of technology components, or characteristics, help service robotics reach the market successfully.
